04 Sep 2018

Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Cheng Xueyua on Monday said, as sister cities, Shanghai and Colombo have lots to lend each other in terms of metropolitan development and governance.

Ambassador Cheng expressed these views while addressing the Photo Exhibition on Shanghai's Achievements in 40 Years of Reform and Opening up and Window of Shanghai Book Donation, which was held at the Public Library in Colombo on Monday.

In November this year, the Ambassador said China will hold the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

“We encourage and welcome Sri Lanka to use this platform to promote its products in Shanghai. Sri Lanka’s black tea is popular in China as well. I wish Shanghai and Colombo will prosper and develop and the friendship between China and Sri Lanka will last forever,” he said.

The Photo Exhibition and the Book Donation was attended by the visiting delegation headed by Yin Yicui, Director of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress of China, Ambassador Cheng Xueyuan and Mayoress of Colombo Madam Rosy Senanayake.

As the window and front field, Shanghai has scored great achievements since China implemented the reform and opening-up policy 40 years ago. It is believed that Shanghai's experience in the past 40 years will provide benefits for Sri Lankans to fulfill their considerable development.
