Photography trends

12 Jun 2022

By Ushara Shamini Elliott Erwitt once said: “Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Photography is a way to express yourself just like with other forms of art. Every individual will see the world around him or her in a unique way and that will be reflected in his or her photos. Also, when it comes to photography, the trends keep changing very rapidly. In this article, let’s get to know a little bit more about the current photography trends.  Vintage background The appeal for outdoor shots and portraiture as well as vintage settings will continue to grow this year. Outdoor portraits give a safe and socially separated experience for customers, where landscape images inspire anyone who wants to get outside and be active. Vintage backgrounds for still life shots are expected to remain popular among photographers who specialise in stock photography. The vintage background will stand out if you use earthy tones, natural objects, and emphasise creating an organic, natural feel. Dramatic colours Many people anticipate seeing bright and vibrant hues. Photographers believe that the images will stand out among millions of others if this is done. The more lively the colours, the more attention-grabbing the image will be. Focusing on colour, whether it’s a splash of colour or colour in the entire piece, may make the images more eye-catching and captivating. When it comes to dramatic colour photography, photographers use neon signs, ultra-saturated components, and colourful buildings to capture vibrant hues in a composition. Candid imagery A candid imagery is a photograph captured in motion, without the appearance of being posed. This is achieved by avoiding prior preparation of the subject or the person and by either surprising the subject or by not distracting the subject during the process of taking photos. Candid imagery is about those little moments that catch us by surprise. Candid imagery allows the artist to blend into the background and simply document what is around them.  Bird’s eye view These are the shots that are taken from an elevated vantage point rather than what is framed in the shot. Bird’s eye view shots give viewers a deeper understanding of what is happening below, both literally and metaphorically. These shots look directly down at the subject. A bird’s eye view shot can be used to give an overall idea of a scene, if not, to emphasise the smallness and the insignificance of the subjects. Smartphone photography It’s no secret that today’s smartphones have excellent cameras, but smartphone photography is not just about that. Smartphones are very easy to use when it comes to photography and they perform well within a limited range of conditions. We can click some good pictures in portrait mode and macro mode. We can also get good shots from a close distance with ease. Also, today’s smartphones have wide-angle cameras. With the rapid development of technology, smartphones are becoming a tool for serious photography. 360° photography In 2022, 360° photography is expected to grow in popularity. Initially, 360° photography was a popular technique used by product photographers to offer purchasers a general idea of the goods being promoted. This provides photographers with a tremendous opportunity to depict a common image uniquely. 360° photography shows viewers not just images of a place, but a 360° representation of the space that allows them to imagine themselves there. Analog photography When it comes to photography, we want to emphasise the relevance of film photography. Even though many photographers prefer digital cameras, there are still a few dedicated professionals and amateurs who have invested their hearts and souls in analog photography. Film photography is an unrivalled medium. Also, large film formats record more detail and playback than certain DSLRs. Film cameras give a unique sensation that no camera filter can duplicate. Nowadays, photography plays a big role in almost any industry. Photography allows you to tell stories without words or attract your audience at a glance. It might be useful to keep yourself updated about the most recent photography trends.  PHOTOS © PEXELS.COM
