Physical distancing in buses will be monitored: Minister

24 Jul 2020

The Ministry of Transport has explicitly advised buses to only transport passengers according to the number of the seats, and has deployed several monitoring teams to be deployed on main bus routes to ensure that the buses adhere to the guidelines that were issued. With the scare of Covid-19 potentially spreading in the community, the Ministry of Health had advised the public to yet again limit commute via public transport, which prompted many state and private companies to arrange transport for their staff to commute to and from work since 14 July. “At the moment there is no overcrowding issue as such that is observed, as many people have either sorted out their transport to get to work and whoever has a vehicle is using their own transport to commute to work. “The changing of office operating times for both the state and private sector with a difference of an hour will also ease the regular congestion that is observed,” Minister of Transport and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera told The Morning.
