Wildlife & Forest Conservation Minister C.B. Ratnayake said thousands of acres of lands belonging to the Land Reform Commission are being misused by several plantation companies.
Speaking at a event held in Nuwara Eliya yesterday, the Minister said a joint programme among the Ministries of Plantation, Lands and Agriculture would be implemented as a solution to this issue.
He also said that steps will be taken to resolve land issues in the district expeditiously.
“Steps have been taken to allocate Rs. 10 million for soil conservation activities in the Nuwara Eliya District. Steps will also be taken for the development of agriculture. We will focus on regularization of fertilizer use, promotion of preservation technology and reduction of post-harvest damage,” Minister Rathnayake said.
