30 Jun 2022

Further to a meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), GMOA secretary Dr Haritha Aluthge said that the meeting was productive and that the Prime Minister assured to the GMOA that necessary measures will be taken as a matter of urgency to ensure the healthcare system does not collapse. The meeting was held yesterday (29) at Temple Trees. "We discussed the difficulties faced by healthcare workers and those in the field due to the fuel crisis, and the shortage of medicines that are much needed for hospitals to function. As for the fuel crisis, we expressed our opinion to the Prime Minister and even made some suggestions. The Prime Minister said that he will look into this fuel matter and will do his best to stop the collapse of the healthcare system in the country," said Dr Aluthge. He further mentioned that if the fuel crisis was not taken seriously, the country and its citizens would face grave difficulties and even pay with their lives.
