Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, has given permission to reopen cinema halls from January 1st in line with health guidelines.
Accordingly, cinemas will be reopened in all areas except for the isolated areas from January 1st next year.
Many artistes, including film producers, film directors and the members of the Film Exhibitors Association recently briefed the Prime Minister on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on their livelihood.
As a result, the Prime Minister has advised that cinemas could be reopened in compliance with quarantine rules and regulations, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
