Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today instructed the new members of the Election Commission to take steps to hold the Provincial Council (PC) Elections without a further delay.
He was speaking at a meeting held with the members of the Election Commission at the Prime Minister’s residence in Wijerama this morning.
The Prime Minister instructed the EC members to look into the possibility of holding elections under either the old or new electoral system.
The EC members said that the necessary legal provisions should be made at ministerial level to change the electoral system.
Therefore, they have pointed out that it would be easier to hold the PC polls under the old electoral system and change it in the future.
