Relevant officials have been directed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to conduct studies in order to allow for the resumption of fishing activities in sea areas affected by the recent MV X-Press Pearl catastrophe.
Accordingly, the areas of focus for the study is said to be the sea areas stretching from Negombo to Panadura
These instructions were directed yesterday (11) during a meeting held at Temple Trees.
Further, the Prime Minister also directed officials to assess the resulting damage from the X-Press Pearl ordeal by considering all sectors such as the environment, fisheries and the economy.
The process of expediting the necessary legal actions to obtain full compensation from the shipping company in question and to remove the wreckage of the vessel was also discussed.
