PM instructs to select dry land to bury COVID victims; says decisions on health can’t be based on religions

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has today instructed to select an extremely dry land, under the instructions of experts in the health sector, for burying of the victims died from COVID-19, the Prime Minister’s Office said. A special discussion between Prime Minister Rajapaksa and the the heads of health authorities was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Parliament today to find out whether the bodies of those who died from Covid-19 could be buried. The Prime Minister has instructed to select an extremely dry land where the ground water level is very low for this purpose, under the instructions of experts in the health sector. The Prime Minister has been informed by the health authorities that the virus was present in the body of a person who died from COVID-19 for about 36 days. Mr. Rajapaksa pointed out that decisions on health cannot be made based on a person’s religion or ethnicity. He said the support of people belonging to all communities is required to adhere to health guidelines. The Prime Minister requested the Muslim MPs who were present at the meeting to extend their support in this regard. Ministers Ali Sabry, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Health Ministry Secretary S.H. Munasinghe were also present. It said a 66-year-old female from Colombo 02 and a 54-year-old female from Weligama who died today tested positive for the virus.
