Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has instructed to immediately renovate the historic Hindagala Cave Temple which consists of paintings belonging to the four eras of Anuradhapura, Gampola, Kandy and Colombo.
The Prime Minister instructed Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Prof. Kapila Gunawardena to look into the matter and take necessary action immediately.
It was reported that the historic Hindagala Cave Temple was on the verge of destruction.
Reconstruction work of this cave temple of historical value will commence soon under the full direction of Prime Minister Rajapaksa.
Officials of the Department of Archaeology and the Central Cultural Fund visited the Hindagala Cave Temple and the renovations are being implemented as per the recommendations already given.
