Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is likely to step down from his position as the Prime Minister and a new cabinet is to be appointed, it is learnt.
Further, it is learnt that if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa steps down from his position, the current cabinet will automatically be dissolved and a new cabinet will have to be appointed.
If incase the 14 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) steps down, the government will then lose the majority in Parliament.
It is also learnt that the cabinet ministers are requesting Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to remain in his current position and that the cabinet ministers will instead step down.
