08 Sep 2021

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will not be meeting with His Holiness the Pope during his visit to Italy. Earlier today, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith accused the PM and the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the alleged decision to meet with the Pope in order to discuss the investigations into the Easter Attacks. The Foreign Ministry went on to confirm through a statement that the PM and the Foreign Minister would only be attending the opening session of the international symposium which will be held in one of Europe’s oldest seats of learning, the University of Bologna, and an audience with His Holiness was not requested for, nor received.
