PMD issues update on Pandora Papers investigation

The allegations of fund accumulated in offshore accounts mentioned in the Pandora Papers against former Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Thirukumar Nadesan have been confirmed to be under investigation by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) upon request by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. This was made known by a statement issued by the Presidents' Media Division (PMD) today (10). The statement had been issued as an update on the investigation initiated by the President. The statement mentions that the Director-General, Legal Affairs at the Presidential Secretariat, Attorney-at-Law Harigupta Rohanadeera had submitted the relevant documentation for the investigations to the Director General of CIABOC on the 8th of November 2021. It goes on to mention that the banks that have been dealing with Thirukumar have been notified, and statements are yet to be received by the CIABOC. The statement concludes by stating that an investigation would commence once all relevant documentation and statements from the banks have been received.
