The police has fired tear gas and has used water cannons to disperse the 'Anthare' University students protesters.
The protest began at Lipton circle today and students walked towards Union Place where police set up barricades to stop the protest moving forward.
A correspondent on site has confirmed that the Police have taken into custody several protesters as well.
