Two persons were killed and three injured when a three-wheeler collided head on with a jeep attached to the Katupotha Police at the 10th mile post on the Wariyapola- Katupotha Road this morning, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said the five persons of the same family were in the three-wheeler which was heading towards Anuradhapura at the time of the accident.
The deceased were identified as the 48-year-old driver of the three-wheeler and his 69-year-old mother.
The driver's wife and two daughters, who were injured, were admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital.
DIG Rohana said the Police Constable driver was admitted to the Katupotha Hospital with injuries.
The Constable was arrested in connection with the accident and a special investigation has been launched by the SSP Kuliyapitiya.
