The Police have raided the premises of the 'News Hub' website which has reportedly been involved in the election campaign of Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
The Police said the search was carried out based on a complaint received that the news outlet was engaged in printing documents propagating racism.
However, the Police said they did not recover anything incriminating.
Former Media Secretary to the Megapolis and Western Development Ministry and Maharagama Urban Council member Dhanushka Ramanayake speaking to reporters said the act was a clear attempt to intimidate media.
Ramanayake said during the Presidential elections the services of some media outlets had been obtained to promote their candidate.
He said the raid was conducted with a search warrant dated 24 November 2018 to 08 December 2018. He further added that there was no information about the complainant.Police raid private web news outlet
