The Police have not received any official reports over the death of notorious underworld kingpin Lasantha Perera alias ‘Angoda Lokka.
"There is a rumour that the suspect had died after allegedly being poisoned while in India. He was a suspect wanted for many crimes. We had received information that he had also fled the country," Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne told media today.
He said the Police had taken measures to obtain official reports over his death.
"We can only confirm his death after we receive scientific proof and other evidence.'
"If we do uncover that he is in fact dead, we will report this to the Court as there are many cases filed against him."
Senaratne, however, said there is a possibility that the suspect may have brewed the rumour himself to later on change his appearance and come back to Sri Lanka or seek refuge in another country.
