Police says increase in fatal road accidents, nine deaths reported yesterday

Police Media Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that there is an increase in fatal road accidents again. Accordingly, 9 persons have been killed in road accidents yesterday (18). The Police Media Spokesman stated that 3 of the deaths were due to road accidents yesterday, 5 due to accidents that occurred the day before yesterday and one death had occurred while the victim was receiving treatment in hospital earlier. The Police Media Spokesman said that most of the accidents are caused by motorcycles and there is a tendency for accidents due to the prevailing rainy weather. Meanwhile, a three-wheeler collided head on with a lorry heading towards Colombo in the Induruwa area on the Galle-Colombo main road yesterday. A 29-year-old resident of Bopagoda, Akuressa, who was traveling in the back of a three-wheeler, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist traveling towards Alankulam in the Sambunagar area on the Addalawwena Alankulam road in the Akkaraipattu Police Division had overturned on the road. The motorcyclist who was seriously injured in the accident has died after being admitted to the Akkaraipattu Hospital. The deceased has been identified as 27 year old Periya Nilavani, a resident of Maradamuna.
