Police to monitor public transport from today

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today stated that all public transport methods will be inspected by the Police starting today. He stated that special attention would be given to check if health regulations are being properly implemented within the buses or trains. He said that those officers deployed to inspect traffic operations were also charged with inspecting the public transport services to ascertain if the passengers were wearing face masks and maintaining proper social distance. He revealed that it was the responsibility of bus owners, conductors and drivers to maintain such health regulations within their bus or train in the face of the pandemic. Rohana said that legal charges would be taken against those who were found violating the health guidelines.
