The Mirihana Police Station is unsure if today’s death of a man atop a transformer close to the President’s residence was a suicide or an accidental electrocution, The Morning learns. Speaking to The Morning, an office attached to the Station said that the person stood on top a transformer before being electrocuted to death. “We cannot confirm whether he was accidentally electrocuted or if he intended to end his life,” the Officer said. According to the Police, the man had mentioned that he was ready to die because of the prevailing situation in the country. "The man was screaming in front of the President's residence in Mirihana. He was fed up of the power cuts and the rising cost of living. While shouting, he stood on top of the transformer and said he is ready to die, before suddenly getting electricuted. He died instantly," the Officer told The Morning. The said individual was 53 years of age and is a resident of Nugegoda.
