The General Election date will be announced this week, Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) Mahinda Deshapriya said today.
The EC last week announced that it would declare the polls date today(8).
However, when the EC convened today, the members had decided to announce the date this week.
The General Election was set to be held on the 25 April, but it was later postponed to 20 June in light of the COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.
Several petitions were filed against the date set by the EC, however all petitions were dismissed by the Supreme Court on the 3rd of June.
