- Announces partners ranging from hospitality and entertainment to automobiles and education industries
By Uwin Lugoda
The tragic Easter Sunday attack left the whole of Sri Lanka shaken, and managed to affect every Sri Lankan in some way or another. Three months on, the damning aftermath of the attacks still continue to take its toll on many people’s lives, while having a crippling effect on our economy. This is where Positive Sri Lanka comes in.
Launched on 20 June, the not-for-profit movement is an attempt by the Sri Lankan business community to help jump-start the economy by building up revenue of Rs. 90 billion (approximately $ 500 million) over the span of two months. In an attempt to garner business from tourists, businesses on board with Positive Sri Lanka are giving out attractive discounts and special deals to shoppers, free publicity for brands, and engaging in many other exciting promos.
The movement has garnered an immense positive response from the business community, with several of Sri Lanka’s leading brands joining in to do their part. These businesses include Spa Ceylon, Ministry of Crab, Vision Care, Elephant House, Unilever, Munchee, Sri Lankan Airlines, Hemas, and Kandy City Centre, to name a few.
The movement sees the sectors of entertainment, leisure, travel and hospitality, education, health, culture and heritage, art, fashion, and connectivity doing their part to help the economy. The Sri Lankan Tourism Board (SLTB) has also endorsed this by giving the participants the rights to use the So Sri Lanka logo in all their communications.
Another goal of the initiative is to create a fund that will be managed by Trail Sri Lanka to help the victims of the attack and their families in their long recovery process. The donations will be distributed by Red Cross in the form of short-term donations for immediate medical needs or, budget permitting, long-term care for people facing permanent consequences.
