
During a meeting with a group of foreign diplomats, President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he is hopeful that the Emergency Regulations will be lifted within the next month.
Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, United States, Germany, Australia and EU, were present at the President’s Official Residence in Colombo today (27).
The President reaffirmed to the diplomats that the country was now 99% secure, as he thanked the international community for their co-operation and assistance in aiding Sri Lanka during its trying time.
The diplomats had called for the meeting with President Sirisena to discuss the current security situation in the country as well as the progress in the various operations that were carried out by security forces following the Easter Sunday attacks.
Further, President Sirisena urged the international community to continue to provide economic assistance and lift the travel advisories issued to tourists.
