05 May 2019

Power plants in the country have been placed under close watch following the Easter Sunday attacks. Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that he has given instructions to provide high level security for all the power plants around the country. Accordingly, the security of all electricity infrastructure including hydropower reservoir areas, grid substations, and transmission lines has been tightened with the support of the tri forces, the Minister said. Minister Karunanayake also told The Sunday Morning that an uninterrupted power supply would be provided for the public. He said the Ministry together with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) was able to purchase supplementary power at the lowest rates for the first time. “Some people are trying to sabotage the work that we wore doing but we have instructed the relevant officials of the CEB to do their job correctly,” he said, adding that the whole Cabinet was keeping the eye on the CEB and his Ministry and there were two or three people that were obstructing the actions taken by them at present.
