Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Romesh Kaluwitharana, and Hemantha Wickramaratne are tipped to be named as the next national selection panel. The previous selection committee was dissolved after its Chairman Ashantha de Mel resigned two days after Sri Lanka lost to England 2-0 in a two-match Test series in Galle on 25 January. The other two members of the committee then were Wickramasinghe and Chaminda Mendis. “Undue influence from various parties and some impractical systems proposed by certain authorities have caused this delay. But the names will probably be announced this week,” a senior SLC official told The Morning Sports yesterday. He also dismissed the possibility of including any other names in the panel. There is speculation that former national players Amal Silva, Brendon Kuruppu, and Kapila Wijegunawardene have also been proposed to the committee. Sri Lanka are to begin a month-long cricket series, which will include games in all three formats, in the Caribbean island of Antigua from 3 March.
