Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has directed the Ministry Secretary to conduct an audit on all the institutions under the purview of the Ministry.
Ranatunga has noted that he had received many complaints about alleged irregularities that had taken place in the institutions under his purview during the tenure of the former Government.
During a meeting at the Urban Development Authority (UDA) recently, Ranatunga had alleged that the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) had printed posters by spending Rs. 137 million. “There is a case before court on the matter. It is a waste and we cannot destroy the posters since they are court productions. The posters are now wasting away. That is why we need to do a complete audit of all these institutions to inquire into these kinds of fraud, corruption, and irregularities,” the Minister had said.
Ranatunga had also taken a swipe at the Aragalaya people’s protest, saying that he was not prepared to change to suit the demands of the Aragalaya.
