Prefabricated buildings at several prisons to ease congestion: Justice Minister

Prefabricated buildings are being fixed at Wariyapola, Mahara, Kalutara and New Magazine Prisons to ease the congestion and to ensure the safety of the prisoners, Justice Minister Ali Sabry said in Parliament today. He said several measures have been taken to ease congestion at prisons and that a new building is being constructed at the Pallansena Prison premises with the assistance of the Army, Navy and Civil Security Forces personnel. “At Boossa Prison, 110 cells are being built anew and construction of 46 cells have been completed. In Wariyapola, plans have been made for a new building complex which is to be completed within three years. Facilities at Weeravila Open Prison Camp will also be expanded to house more inmates,” the minister said.
