President issues directives on flood relief measures

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed relevant officials to take swift measures to provide relief to those who are affected by the Islands prevailing weather conditions. Directives were also issued by the President to obtain the assistance of the armed forces in relief operations and in evacuations in flood-prone areas. These measures were discussed during a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat today, the President's Media Division(PMD) said. More than 6,000 people in Galle, Matara and Colombo have been affected by the Island's weather condition in the past several days. According to the PMD, the progress of relief measures for the mentioned flood affected victims have been reviewed at the meeting. The Minister of Disaster Management, Ranjith Maddumabandara, Secretary to the President Udaya R. Seneviratne, Defence Secretary General ShanthaKottegoda,Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management, public servants, the Chief of the Defence Staff, tri-forces commanders and the Acting IGP were present at the meeting.
