President leaves for Japan

President Maithripala Sirisena left for Japan today (21) to attend the coronation ceremony of Emperor Naruhito upon the invitation of Japanese Government. Japanese Emperor Naruhito ascended to the throne in May and the formal enthronement ceremony will take place tomorrow (Oct. 22). The President is expected to meet Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. He will also meet several heads of state attending the event. This will be Sirisena’s third official visit to Japan. His previous visits include attending the G7 Summit in May 2016.
