President visits 9/11 memorial site

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended the special commemorative event today (24) which was organized in front of the Manhattan Memorial in the United States to mark the 20th anniversary of terrorist attacks in Washington and New York, the President's Media Division (PMD) confirmed. The Terrorist attacks that took place on the 11th of September 2001 targeted the World Trade Centre in New York and and the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defence. Other Heads of State and Government representatives, who were in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, were also present at the event to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is currently in the United States to attend the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly The event was jointly organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
