A total of 146 prisoners would be released tomorrow in view of the Independence Day under a special pardon granted by the President, the Prisons Department said.
Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said the number of prisoners to be released for Independence Day has reduced as many prisoners were released under pardons for Christmas and due to COVID-19 pandemic on several occasions.
“The PCR tests on most of the inmates to be released tomorrow have been completed. They will be released as soon as the test results are out," he said.
