Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said the presidential polls will cost a staggering Rs. 7 Bn.
He was speaking at a special press conference held by the Election Commission today.
He said 1/4 of this cost will be allocated for police related expenses.
The Election commission previously declared that the cost of the election would reach Rs. 4 Bn.
He said the cost has increased due to the number of the candidates contesting this time's presidential polls. He said cash deposits placed by the 35 candidates will be used for expenses of the presidential election.
