Previous regime should take responsibility of the power crisis - Dayasiri

11 Feb 2020

The Yahapalana Government must take full responsibility of the prevailing power crisis , SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told reporters today. He said the Economic Development Committee led by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe during the last regime did not address pressing power issues. Jayasekara added that many power and energy proposals had gotten stuck at the committee and relevant ministries were unable take timely decisions. "As a result of the previous government's inefficiency, the current government is facing a power crisis.  We are also forced to purchase power at a higher price from the private sector," Jayasekara added. Sri Lanka is once again facing a serious power crisis that is threatening to cripple the country’s economy if not addressed soon. In this backdrop, the Government has already decided to purchase 300 MW of emergency power from private power plants (PPP) for 30 months as a precautionary measure to avoid any future power outages during the predicted drought seasons.
