State Minister of Co-operative services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Aligiyawanna stated that price revisions for necessities such as rice, paddy, sugar, milk powder and cement would be announced next week.
"We discussed extensively on the issues concerning rice and paddy and the shortage of sugar, flour, milk powder and cement. The cabinet subcommittee on cost of living decided to make a final decision in this regard next week during the cabinet meeting which would be held next Monday evening," said Aligiyawanna.
These statements were made during a media brief held yesterday (24).
Additionally, Aligiyawanna has requested the business community to avoid concealing stocks of essential goods in the expectations of the price to increase, as goods will not be allowed to be sold above the stipulated price.
Aligiyawanna went on to state that the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) will be taking relevant steps to implement the regulations after next Tuesday
