Measures are being taken to stabilise prices of 10 essential goods including rice, flour, sugar, dhal and chicken from February, the Ministry of Trade said today.
The list of items also includes sprats, onion, potatoes, eggs and canned fish.
Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane said the ministry has devised a plan to purchase high quality goods for a lower price.
Accordingly, products bought at a lower prices would be sold directly through Sathosa outlets, Co-operative shops and Q-shops.
The minister said the programme of stabilising prices will be implemented for six months.
