A prime drug trafficking suspect has been arrested in Tangalle yesterday (14).
He is a 36-year-old boatman named Papi.
A police spokesman said that he had used his boat to bring a consignment of narcotics into the country last February.
It has been reported that several firearms were also brought at that time, said Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.
The suspect, who had been in hiding for some time, was arrested yesterday following an undercover investigation by the Narcotics Bureau.
"Areas such as the South Coast, Weligama, Gandara and Tangalle were becoming drug distribution centers in the country and it is now possible to control the situation, said Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.
