Private bus taken into police custody for violating travel restrictions

A private bus traveling from Batticaloa to Colombo has been taken in police custody in the Grandpass area for violating inter-provincial travel restrictions, Police Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said. The driver of the bus, his assistant and 38 passengers were taken into police custody. It was revealed that the passengers of the bus had also taken their motorcycles in the bus to Colombo. Meanwhile, 403 people have been arrested for violating quarantine laws in the past day. It is reported that 62 of them have been arrested from Kandy, 35 from Matale and 40 from Kuliyapitiya. Accordingly, 45,935 persons have been arrested for violating the quarantine laws so far, said Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana. He said action would be taken against the arrested persons in the future.
