Private buses threaten to halt bus services in Western Province

The Private Bus Owners’ Association is preparing to halt bus services in the Western Province .
Chairman of the association Gemunu Wijeratne speaking to The Morning said the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority was insisting that private buses obtain their log licences for the month.
He said only 60% of private buses were operating at the moment and that bus owners could not afford the fee charged for the log licence.
“We want the Authority to stop burdening us and give us some kind of relief during this time.”
He further noted that adjustments in public and private office hours were required for buses to operate efficiently and generate more revenue.
