Probe into Mahindananda’s match fixing allegations halted

The probe into former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s match fixing allegations has been halted.

The probe by the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry was halted as there was no evidence to back the allegations.

According to the SIU sufficient evidence had been recorded from former cricketers and a final report is to be submitted to the Secretary of the Sports Ministry.

The SIU said it finds the statements of former cricketers Kumara Sangakkara, Aravinda de Silva and Upul Tharanga to be genuine and that there were practical reasons for a change in squad during the tournament.

An investigation was launched by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Ministry of Sports into the match-fixing allegations made by Aluthgamage on the 2011 World Cup finals between Sri Lanka and India.
