A programme has been launched to upgrade 14 roads in Jaffna district. Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, a program to develop 1 lakh km of roads nationwide has been launched.
The inaugural event of the project to convert the 2 km long Muttavinayagar Road within the boundaries of the Nallur Municipal Council into a salvage road was held yesterday (29).
Meanwhile, the main road leading to the Derigiler Estate, which connects the Kotagala Nuwara Eliya main road, will be maintained as a carpet road. The foundation stone was laid yesterday under the leadership of Foreign Minister Jeevan Thondaman. The government has allocated about 78 million rupees for the development of about 4 km of carpeted roads, according to the Government Information Department.
