Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday attacks and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ananda Kumarasiri stressed that parliamentarians who are constituents of the Committee should act in a responsible manner. Kumarasiri, speaking to The Sunday Morning, said he had only limited control over the behaviour of the parliamentarians in the PSC. “There are certain people we can’t have too much control over. If they go out of line, of course, I can stop them, but these are senior parliamentarians and senior members of political parties.” When The Sunday Morning questioned instances where members of the Select Committee remarked their opinions or made statements during committee sittings, the Deputy Speaker responded that committee members should conduct themselves in an impartial and responsible manner.
“One might have personal grudges, but those should not be presented during committee sittings. As senior parliamentarians, they should know to conduct themselves properly and behave in a responsible manner.”
