By Skandha Gunasekara

The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the 21 April attacks is to meet President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (16) to finalise matters regarding the latter’s appearance before the Committee.

“I will be meeting the President on Monday regarding his upcoming testimony before the Select Committee. The issue of whether sessions would be open to the media will also be discussed,” Chairman of the PSC and Deputy Speaker of Parliament MP Ananda Kumarasiri told The Sunday Morning.

President Sirisena is to give evidence to the PSC on Friday (20) at the Presidential Secretariat.

Following a meeting of the PSC members yesterday (14), sources within the PSC told The Sunday Morning that the Committee is to question the President on matters regarding the National Security Council (NSC) among other issues.

“The President’s name transpired in the testimonies of many of the witnesses that gave evidence to the Committee.

So I expect the Committee will question him regarding the NSC along with other concerns we have,” sources said.

PSC sittings are to conclude thereafter but an extension of two of its term would be requested from Parliament to conclude the compiling of the Committee’s final report which would then be submitted to Parliament.
