A special investigation has been launched into the attack on a Public Health Inspector (PHI) in the Santasolai area in Vavuniya.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that investigations are underway following a complaint lodged by the relevant PHI.
The police spokesman said that a motorcyclist had allegedly assaulted the PHI when he questioned the motorcyclist about why he was not wearing a mask.
The motorcyclist has been identified as a 25-year-old resident of the same area, the police spokesman said.
Accordingly, the Vavuniya Police have commenced an investigation to arrest the suspect.
DIG Ajith Rohana also said that strict laws will be enforced against incidents of criminal coercion and assault on health workers and other officials on duty controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.
