Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) across the country have withdrawn from COVID-19 related work from 12.30 pm today.
The Union said the decision was taken following media reports quoting Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi as saying that Covid-19 health guidelines will be issued and that no power would be allocated to PHIs in order to protect citizens from being penalized.
Moreover, the Union said that the government had not provided minimum facilities and adequate legal protection to PHIs to continue Covid related work.
"We have also been called a 'hindrance' to covid prevention activities," the Union claimed.
