Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara today said that he would submit a proposal to Parliament to provide mandatory military training for all Sri Lankan citizens aged over 18.
He said no one needs to be afraid of the proposal and that it was for the betterment of the country.
“This training will enable people to stand on their own feet, encourage leadership qualities and contribute to a disciplined and law-abiding country. I hope to present this proposal during the earliest possible parliamentary sitting," he stated.
He further noted that this rule has helped many countries establish discipline and it would be beneficial for the youth at large.
He also stated that this would allow the youth to have a sense of responsibility and expand on their opportunities through this training.
