Public servants urged to contribute a percentage of their May salary

President’s Secretary P. B. Jayasundera has requested all state institutions to consider contributing half, a week or a day’s contribution from their May salaries to combat Covid 19, Jayasundera said in a press statement.

He said if government servants agree to contribute, the proceeds will be deposited into the Widows’ and Orphans’ Pension Fund.

“The country would further be able to reduce its budget deficit,” Jayasundera added.

Jayasundera said the treasury spends approximately Rs. 100 b on salaries per month.

He further noted that the government would also be able to manage its debt.

Jayasundera has pledged his salary for the month of May to set an example to the staff of the President’s Office.
