Pure Ceylon Tea brand promotion expanded

19 Aug 2021

  • Campaign currently conducted in 12 countries
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal furnished by Minister of Plantation Dr. Ramesh Pathirana in order to further expand the Pure Ceylon Tea brand promotion scheme during the year 2021/22. The brand promotion is anticipated to encourage Ceylon Tea Shops and Houses under the global promotion programme, which is currently implemented in 12 countries. This proposal on promoting Pure Ceylon Tea was made following the promotional programme that took place during 2015/16 as well as during 2018/19. During the first promotional programme, it benefitted 20 Sri Lankan companies, and during the last programme, 18 companies were benefited. Furthermore, it has been observed that along with such a global promotional programme, there is a necessity to promote other private brands as well, since those brands also would be introduced to the global market subsequently. This aforesaid global promotional programme is also to be implemented with the intention of providing a 50% adjustment grant at the promotion cost for the promotion of the Pure Ceylon Tea brand. The Pure Ceylon Tea brand with the lion logo is owned by Sri Lanka and is registered with the National Intellectual Property Bureau (NIPO). Its international market dates back to 1873 when 23 pounds of tea produced by James Taylor, the pioneer in tea plantation in British Ceylon, reached London.
