Pvt. bus owners submit proposals: Government to consider

09 Jun 2020

By Skandha Gunasekara  The Government has agreed to look into several proposals by the private bus unions including the introduction of two work shifts for the state sector.   Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Head Gemunu Wijeratne told The Morning that a meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (8) had been fruitful.  “The President heard our concerns and agreed to look at having two shifts for the public sector. This way, public transport can be better organised and more efficient. Government employees and institutions will also become more productive as a result,” he said. Wijeratne said that the initial idea was to have two separate shifts – one from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.  He also said that the Government has agreed to maintain a proper bus schedule.  “The President was in agreement that the Supreme Court-mandated bus schedule be implemented for government and private buses immediately.”
