Quarantine centre at Bogambara Prison a time bomb: Kiriella

18 Nov 2020

The quarantine centre for inmates established at the Bogambara Prison in Kandy has become a time bomb, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Lakshman Kiriella said. Speaking in Parliament, he said the premises was vacated during the Yahapalana Government to be developed as a mix development project. “Now, it has been converted into a quarantine centre. This is a time bomb in the centre of Kandy city. The prison is situated in close proximity to the market, the railway station and the bus terminal. Some inmates have escaped last night and one was shot dead. This is not a proper place to maintain a quarantine centre. It was initially said that 100 inmates will be housed but now there are 800 at the prison,” MP Kiriella said.
