The Colombo High Court today fixed the trial on May 31 over the case filed against MP Patali Champika Ranawaka and two others for fabricating evidence in the 2016 Rajagiriya accident case.
Former Minister and incumbent Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka was indicted in the Colombo High Court on Thursday (4) over an accident which took place in Rajagiriya in 2016.
He was indicted on charges of reckless driving and the failure to prevent an accident. The indictments were read out in open court and handed over to the accused.
When the case was taken up before High Court Judge Namal Wellala yesterday, the counsel who appeared for MP Ranawaka said that his senior counsel intends to file a preliminary objection stating that the High Court has no jurisdiction to hear these allegations.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared for the prosecution, said that such an objection could be made at the outset of the case.
However, after listening to the submissions, the Judge ordered to file preliminary objections on 27 April and postponed the hearing.
